It is a core belief of mine that love makes the world go round, and I would like to think that it is a postive and healthy thing.
For me, love gives me a sense of purpose, whether I am working or I am creating. I am not saying I love all my patients, but I do love to care for others and that gives me a sense of purpose.
Obviously, I love my family, friends and pets but, early on in life, I learned that I would have to do a job that would bring me fulfilment if I was ever going to last working for the next 30 years!
At the time of my nurse training, I was the sole provider for my family. Nursing has always given me a sense of purpose and it also correlates with one of my core values that not everyone can help themselves, or be independent of needing help some time in their lives.
When I ask myself, why do I like crafting and why do I want to make cards, then I realise that cardmaking is really an extension of expressing love for myself and for others.
Crafting and cardmaking allows me to switch off from work and allows me to touch, feel and play with colour and mediums.
I used to love art and sewing at school. More than cookery actually, haha. I had to cook when I lived with my parents so that took the excitement off that one!
Good mental health practice, is to connect with what makes you happy and correlate that connection with what some of your core beliefs may be.
Hoping todays post gives you a chance to refllect on you and recognise what makes you happy.
Hugs, Cheryl 🙂
Its a long weekend for most, and hopefully people are enjoying some quality family time.
I have taken advantage and had some quality time in my craft room. I certainly think my crafting mojo is returning. So keep and eye out for some new creations on my blog and Instagram.
In case you are curious, the stamp set used for this card is called Some Bunny and its by Simon Says Stamp.
I fly out to the UK on Wednesday. I will be staying with my daughter and two of my grandsons. My son will be there initially, then I will join him back in London for some sightseeing. One thing I hope, is that this snow in Calgary has melted away by the time I get back ha, ha.
Well, bye for now and enjoy the rest of your day.
Hugs, Cheryl 🙂
Hi guys, I’m back with Snappy Birthday!
It been nearly a year since I last wrote a blog post.
Throughout 2017, I was not a well puppy and as a result I had to take a step back. I was getting pretty overwhelmed for a while.
I work in the mental health field and if I was to continue helping others successfully, then I should also take care of myself. So I did!
One promise I made was to my lovely crafty friend Lesley Oman over at Heffy Doodle Stamps. During the last year, Lesley has set up her own business designing and selling her own rubber stamps. I promised to use one of her stamp sets when making my first card of 2018. And here it is… Snappy Birthday.
The stamp set used is called Happy Snappy Crocs, and its so unique and fun. I just couldn’t resist adding the google eyes.
Looking forward to chatting with you again very soon.
Hugs, Cheryl 🙂
Hi guys, I have a card to share with you today that I have called Happy Birthday Kitties.
To make this card I used two different Honey Bee stamp sets called Curious Kitties and Hooray. I have to say I love these little kittens and it was a pleasure creating with them on behalf of Honey Bee Stamps. The way the same cat has different poses is just adorable.
To achieve the green effect for the grounding of the images, I masked off the base then ink blended it using a dark and lighter green. This then gave me a platform on which to sit my little kitties. For the colouring, I used my Copic markers, which tends to be what I use primarily for colouring in images.
There are extra add-ons included in the set which help to create scenes. For this card, I added the fish bowl, fish and bubbles. Also, you may notice that I also added a wee bow which I coloured the same as the fish bowl. This brought all the colors together nicely.
To finish, I added the Happy and the Birthday from the Hooray stamp set to make this a ‘purrfect’ card for any cat lover!
Well, I will sign off for now and look forward to seeing you again next time at the Honey Bee blog!
Hugs, Cheryl ?
